I supported a Veteran’s fishing weekend for the second year in a row. The two-day event is part of the Veteran’s Adventure Project sponsored by the Pittsburgh Chapter of Safari Club International. This year’s event was significant because my Father was one of the honored veterans, and my brother was also volunteering.
The fishing was much more challenging than last year, but the experience was fantastic with fishing, campfires, and fun. It’s a laid-back couple of days in a place where we have all to ourselves.
I’ve made it a point to allocate time to more opportunities like the Veteran’s Fishing Weekend over the past two years, and it’s undoubtedly been time well spent. Volunteering has become important to me, so I’m dialing in a new focus on ways to make volunteering a more regular part of the annual calendar.
In my opinion, finding organizations that overlap with your passions is the best way to get engaged and stay engaged. It’s also a great way to realize a return on your most precious asset – your time.
Sincerely,
Brian Pitell
